If you’re new to the freelance world then you’re in the right place! The resource section of Dynamic Freelancers is a great way to get free tips and advice on what to do when you first start out. Make sure to check out the articles on Writing your CV, Making your showreel and Self-employed vs limited companies.
Once you have these 3 things in order you’re ready to get going. Start by getting your CV and showreel over to as many different people as possible. Get your friends to share via social media and call as many perspective clients as you can. Persistence is the key. If you don’t quit you’ll never fail and eventually someone will give you the break you’re looking for.
Tip 1: KEEP YOUR PHONE ON!
When clients are looking to take on a freelancer it is usually last minute and if you miss that all important phone call they’ll be on to the next freelancer on the list. Make sure your phone is always switched on and close by so you can jump on the opportunities when they arise.
Tip 2: CHECK YOUR EMAIL REGULARLY
Once or twice a day is not going to cut it I’m afraid. The same as the phone calls, if a client reaches out to you, make sure you’re there to respond. If your mobile data plan allows for it, put your emails on ‘Push’ so you are alerted of any opportunities straight away.
Tip 3: REGISTER YOUR INTEREST WITH DYNAMIC FREELANCERS!

Tip 4: WORK HARD
When you do finally get that golden opportunity, don’t waste it! Turn up early, be enthusiastic and work your socks off! This is what clients respond to the most and if you can impress in your first few days, repeat bookings will be easy to come by.
Remember, there is a lot of competition out there so it’s your work to lose. If you turn up late and show no interest, you wont be asked back. Simple. It can be make or break for your freelance career in these first few months so get your head down and work hard!
